Frequently asked questions.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Prior to your first appointment, you will complete assessments and standard questions about what brings you to therapy. During the first session, we may review these assessments, gather additional information about your family, education, career, health, etc., identify personal goals for therapy and simply get to know one another to determine if we both feel comfortable and will be a good fit.

What is therapy really like?

Therapy can look different depending on personality styles, communication styles, motivation and goals. Typically, therapy include reflecting on events in the past, identifying patterns of thinking and behaving, communicating what and how we feel and developing insight into how to grow and move forward. While there may be some initial anxiety, you should feel comfortable enough with your therapist to be honest, authentic and open to trying new things.

How long do typical therapy sessions last?

Generally, individual sessions last 55 minutes. Some insurance providers dictate how long or frequent sessions may be, for example only covering 45 minute sessions or allowing so many sessions per year. Sessions may take place virtually from the comfort and privacy of your own home, in the office or outdoors.

How much does therapy cost?

A 55 minute session is $115. Extended sessions are pro-rated at this rate. All major credit cards and Health Savings Account accepted. You have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate at any time however this fee does not change by diagnosis or service provided as it is an hourly fee.

Does insurance cover therapy?

Many insurance companies will assist in therapy costs, however there are often a limited number of sessions allotted as well as copays or deductibles to meet. I am currently an In-Network Provider for Cigna, Aetna and Optum/United Healthcare. If you would like to use your insurance for an Out-of-Network provider I will gladly provide a superbill for you to submit, however payment must be made up front. Please call your insurer prior to your first session to verify eligibility.

What are your hours? Can I make evening and weekend appointments?

I attempt to return phone calls within 24 hours, however email is often the easiest and fastest way to reach me. I offer virtual sessions by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. I see clients in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. However, there are exceptions. For example, if a client is a danger to themselves, others or discloses the abuse of a minor or elder the therapist is mandated to make a report to proper authorities. Also, for insurance to accept a claim and disperse payment for services rendered a diagnosis and some assessment details must be submitted to the insurance company.
